$10 Million A Year With Lego Lights

Adults who buy toys are called Kidults by the industry. They buy $9 billion worth of toys a year and are responsible for a quarter of the entire industry. They’re also the fastest growing segment.

Light My Bricks is a niche player that is profiting from the trend. They develop light kits that are designed specifically for Lego sets.

Kenny Lee started the company in 2015. He sourced components from China that could be customized and were small enough to blend into the sets.

Within six months he was making more than his day job.

The first year they sold $100,000 in light sets. The company was growing by 70% a year and after 18 months he hired his first employee. His wife’s Aunt.

Light My Bricks was perfect for social media. Builders would post photos of their completed, lit up sets and they looked amazing.

The company continued to grow and hit $10.9 million in sales last year.

Their best selling kit is the orchid.

What else could you do in this space?

Well there’s companies doing wireless lighting where Lego’s placed on a plate will light up…

But I think the key is to look into adult hobbies.

Miniatures are a big (pun intended) business, is there an opportunity for lighting there? Or display cases? Or communities?

What about adult board games. Puzzles. Coloring books.

What about learn to crochet kits? Actually, someone did that! The Woobles have great beginner sets and they sold over $5 million in their first two years of business with amazing margins (they were even on Shark Tank).

So start looking into hobbies that adults love!
