Best Business Podcasts
If you’ve been reading for a while then you know I park far from work. It saves me money. It gives me time to come up with post ideas. It lets me listen to podcasts. I think that’s a superpower in 2023 that people aren’t leaning into.
Now podcasts have been around for a long time, but I think they’re currently undervalued. Just think about your best friend. How much did you talk with them over the past week? 30 minutes? One hour? Two? Pick your favorite podcast and how long did you tune in over the past week? People scroll through Instagram or TikTok with barely three heart beats passing before the next dopamine hit. But podcasts are different. People will listen to a pod for 30 minutes, or an hour or three and be content. You can’t scroll TikTok when you’re driving or doing laundry, but you can listen to a podcast.
The result is that after a few weeks you feel like you know the hosts. You’re entertained and engaged. And that has power. But I’m heading into a conversation into why you need to start a podcast. Why most don’t post more than a few episodes. Why you just need persistence and you can create a personal brand and relationship worth millions. But that’s not what we’re doing today. We’re sharing what should be in your noise cancelling headphones when you’re mowing the lawn. What you put in your AirPods on the weekend while doing chores. I guarantee you’ll look forward to laundry. These are that good. So lets get started.
Operators Podcast - It all started from a group text and turned into an amazing podcast where everyone is running a business selling more than $100 million per year. Amazing tactics and stories from some of the best eCommerce operators in the world. Jason Panzer (Hexclad), Sean Frank (Ridge), Matthew Bertulli (Pela/Lomi), Mike Beckham (Simple Modern).
My First Million - Sam Parr and Shaan Puri are both legit businessmen, but more importantly legit forward momentum with legs, that cover tech, startups, founders and business ideas. You remember last week when you went out with your buddy to the local pub and dreamed up business ideas? This is that a few times a week while you’re driving to your corporate gig. It’ll make you sad you have an assistant and dream for the days you’re grinding to get new business and the month over month revenue growth is written on the whiteboard.
Founders - David Senra is a man on a mission. He reads biographies and autobiographies of entrepreneurs and recounts their steps, mistakes and how they relate to other founders. I love his sign off where he states that’s “3xx books down, 1,000 to go.” The obvious takeaway is all of the lessons he tells you about. The less obvious takeaway is how his passion and singular focus on a repeatable flywheel is building a great business and an example of what people should do. Can anyone do this for the next decade as good as him? Nope. That’s a competitive moat. Listen to the PayPal story from the book Founders, it’s crazy.
Acquired - Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal host this fantastic pod covering businesses that we know about, but don’t know the full story. They pick a company and go in depth on how they got started, who participated in a coup and what you should takeaway. Listen to the LVMH episode. It’s brilliant.
All-In - Brilliant billionaires and friends talking about tech and business.
The Side Hustle Show - Nick Loper discusses a bunch of side hustle businesses with entrepreneurs.
Planet Money - Interesting money topics covered with the standard NPR fine finish.
Revisionist History - Malcolm Gladwell’s brainchild. Not necessarily business, but worth listening to just to help you understand how to craft a story. I saw him live and it was majestic. Highly recommend.
How I Built This - Guy Raz was a leader in this space and it was one of my must listen to podcasts a few years ago. Great guests, most are very successful.
