AirBnb Amenities: A Niche Site Idea Powered by Affiliate Revenue
With over 7 million AirBnb’s in the world there is a giant market for helping the owners make more money. An amazing niche site would be one that details amenities for short term rentals and gives examples of the products and potential returns.
There could be posts looking at certain geographies and comparing what similar places with and without a hot tub were charging. Then you could look at the costs of a hot tub, make a recommendation (potential affiliate revenue) and model out what the return on investment would be and how long it would take to pay off the new hot tub.
Other posts could look at the best hot tubs, pinball machines, popcorn machines, foosball tables, boardgames, etc.
You could do feature stories on owners who did upgrades. Posts on luxury rentals. Posts on multi-rental with shared amenities. Posts on general tips for owners. Build a newsletter following to help Airbnb owners to optimize their business. Start a podcast and talk to operators and business owners who sell amenities.
You could feature properties with amazing amenities.
There’s a ton of visuals available for a site like this and a ton of information as the rental rates and amenities are public. If you’re interested in this space it could be a decent sized business, although one that would take a lot of time building the content and audience.
An interesting example is Live Oak Lake who started their own rental company and has done interviews on how they are building their business. It’s fascinating.
Like in this video where they mention their container pool costs $50,000 and then they added a $10,000 hot tub for each of the seven rentals. So they spent $120,000, but they raised rates by $100 per night (with no change to pace of bookings) which leads to paying off the upgrades in eight months. Great example for other short term rental operators.
If you’re thinking of doing this and going down the newsletter route I’d suggest Convertkit or Beehiiv. If you’re looking for a great looking blog then Squarespace does a great job (I use it for this site). Airmenity.com and AirAmenity.com are available. Or at least they were when I posted… Oh and if you’re looking for a domain use porkbun (not an affiliate link, Derek Sivers just said they’re awesome).
